Course Reserves and Moodle

Beginning Spring '10, Library Access Services and the Center for Digital Learning & Research (CDLR) will work with faculty who use both Course Reserves and Moodle to move their library reserve "items" into their Moodle courses.
We are doing this in order to:
  1. simplify student access to course materials by "placing" them in one convenient location
  2. resolve security issues by ensuring that reserve items are available only to Oxy faculty and students
  3. streamline processes and maximize efficiencies in course material rollover from semester to semester
How will this work for physical items such as books and videos/DVDs (including Faculty Loan Items)? Rather than linking to the OASys catalog record for physical items from a separate course reserves page, we'll create a link directly from within your Moodle course to the OASys catalog record.
How will this work for scanned book chapters, essays, articles? Rather than linking to the scanned documents from a separate, unsecured course reserves page, we'll upload the documents directly into your Moodle course OR create links to the documents in one of our online databases.
What do you need to do? Just as you have in the past, contact Hoda Abdelghani, in Library Access Services, regarding any course reserves. Let her know that you use Moodle. Hoda will serve as the initial point of contact. Library Access Services and CDLR staff and student assistants will then work together to integrate reserve items into your Moodle courses.
We look forward to working with you to make this a smooth transition! We're confident you and your students will find the integration worthwhile. Don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have.
