An introductory course in the techniques of music for the student who has little or no previous musical training. Topics will include notation, modes, intervals, melody, harmony, rhythm, and structural elements of music, taught through the lens of multiple musical genres and styles.
In MUSC 250 we continue our study of the integrated behavior of melody, harmony, time (rhythm, meter, proportion), and form as the harmonic vocabulary grows to include chromatic materials. We will spend more time on complete works (or movements within multi-movement works), with class presentations and long-form analysis assignments designed to enhance your ability to think and talk about complex musical styles.
