In this course, Occidental students who speak Spanish or Mandarin will participate in an online course to support elementary aged children develop bilingual skills. Students will learn about sociocultural learning theory, and activity and project-based learning. The course kicks off with two class meetings for students to learn a little about bilingual education principles and history, lesson/activity design, and plan the activities/projects they will carry out with children. We will meet children online (Zoom) in the third or fourth week of classes. Students will be responsible for journaling, keeping track of their experience and observations, and preparing activities and lessons. Graded on a Credit/No Credit basis. May be repeated for credit.
